Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city on the island of Honshu. It's famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. It’s also known for formal traditions such as kaiseki dining, consisting of multiple courses of precise dishes, and geisha, female entertainers often found in the Gion district.

The center of Kyoto-shi. Surrounding by a modern shopping mall, restaurants, hotels, and of course Kyoto Tower. I am so impressed with the futuristic architecture of this station. If you were Muslims, you can go to Kyoto Tower building to take a pray.

Enormous and beautiful railway station, yet it's easy to find your way around if you know your line and your platform. Impressive example of how good a railway system can be.

Big, beautiful, clean station with many shops and restaurants. The staff is very helpful and friendly. So much to do in the station and within walking distance.

When the shops are open during evening rush hour this place is on-point with bright and vibrant colors and smells. A vast array of shopping and eating options including clothing shops, food on sticks to perfectly prepared specialty foods, Jewelers selling more bling than most can afford, bakeries selling aromatic offerings, coffee shops ready to provide you with a jolt of caffeine, convenient stores offering almost everything you could think of, to luggage storage, and much much more. This place may not be all things to all people but it sure enough offers a plethora of selections to satisfy most.

My first time used super bullet train or Shinkansen.

A very big ans busy station. It is so big that you can get lost in there. They have lots of services there: coin lockers, luggage transfer, take away shops, supermarkets... But I wish they have more chairs to sit or more restaurants there.

Clean, good labels and directions in Japanese and English, and excellent people flow. Easy to move around and get where you need to go. The people working there are very helpful.

This station is so big with many dining places, shooping stores and other services. There are direction boards in English and Japanese and even if you are not sure which gate you should enter for the line you want, you can ask staff at the gate. You can go upstairs to view neighborhood from above.

Best planned station. Marriage of hotels, jr lines, subway lines and an overwhelming retail and food network. The skywalk is a cheap way to get a great view of Kyoto city including Kyoto tower

Quite large snd slightly confusing but many shops and restaurants. The sky way ,(all escslators up) is recommended.

Impressive structure with so many restaurants, shops around. Everything is clearly labeled in Japanese and English. Very clean and lively station, with modern touch. Plenty of hotels surrounding the station as well.

Kyoto station is very modern hub station with many famous restaurants gathered. If you don't have much time to find good place to eat before go to other cities, this is the place you can have something nice quickly and go. I'll recommend Green tea cafes here.

Probably one of my favourite train stations in Japan. A huge building with many levels. There are lots of restaurants to the left of the main JR Gates. The stairs is famous for its light displays. Further up the stairs there are a few areas tucked away to have some place to relax and eat snacks. If you are going in the Fall, the tourist office has a "fall colour report" showing fall colour conditions.

Beautiful station with multistoried facilities. Eateries and malls all available in one stop.

I have lived in Kyoto for over 5 years now and been in Japan at a total of 10 (as of the time of this review)I love this city, I love the atmosphere, I love the people, the food, the culture and the sights. I hope for many more great years in this city and hope you visit and checkout all the cool places it has to offer!Kyoto station is very spacious, has lots of great stores to checkout and many restaurants to dine at. Buses are right next to the station so it's very easy to go from train to bus in a matter of minutes.

Inside of the station is very impressive, you can go to the top and see some nice views. And lights on the stairs, that act as a screen is a superb idea.

More than just a station. It's a melting pot of cultures and races, and it serves as one of the main entry points into Kyoto. Tourists can enjoy a wide array of shops and restaurants even after they alight from their trains. The said restaurants & shops boast world-class quality in their food and in their products!

Well connected, clean station with lots of shopping and dining options. Figuring out the tracks and platforms in advance is recommended as the station is massive.

Probably one of the best train stations that I have seen in Kansai Region. Kyoto Station has it all. Enjoy the food, the shops, and the cafe inside this vast station. If you have time to spare, head up to the Observation deck and the Skywalk to get the best view of the city FOR FREE!!!You can also ride the Shinkansen to Tokyo here.

Considering this is a massive and very busy station, it is very clean and organized. It does take time to get the hang where things are like the bus stops, train levels, shops, but the Japanese information desk and directions are very helpful. It's also nice place to spend time here, either waiting for departure or checking out the amazing open architecture and view of the Kyoto tower and city itself. There's lots of shops and restaurant within and underground the station, so I would suggest to allot some time here. I will definitely go back.

Amazing! A must see even if you're not taking a train in or out of the station. Like a world within a world. And you must go up to Ramen noodle floor! Unreal.

very convenient ! near everything : eat, stay & many kind of transport. well organised & friendly information staff . lower ground has a lot of eatery shop. there are a lot of exit head to different direction, we almost lost in there..

You should always try matcha with traditonal tea snacks. It's the convenient place to experience and enjoy real matcha while waiting for next train or shinkansen

Huge station building. Amazing views from upper levels. See my pic. Basement levels are quite a maze! Don’t get lost down there. Shinkansen lines stop here, so this is where you’ll get off.

Lost and find yourself in KYOTO station! Clean, easy to navigate. Ticket machines are everywhere. The personnel will help you if you get lost or needs assistance. Everything is on time. Bus, sub, everything! Bathroom - checkRestaurants - checkConvenience store - checkPost office is 5 minutes walk from the station too!

Very awesome place to be there at Kyoto station. The best part of this station is chocolate stores spawn entirely on the premises. I love the chocolate smell of station. Many site seeing attractions near by within a walkable distance and shopping malls in front of station.I would love to be there again if I travel to Kansai region.

It is a huge train exchange station with many shopping and food places around the station. Commuters and travellers will be spoilt for food choices. Additionally, travellers with baggages and luggages fret not. There are baggage lockers around the station.

Station 30-33 for airport express..If you carry for badge, I recommend you enter to the station by central gate.. it is more convenient for travel.

This is one of the world's great transit hubs. Comes down to three things: IT IS DROP DEAD BEAUTIFUL, it is incredibly functional and intuitive and it has everything you could want from the tour of regional ramen on 10F perfect gift options if this is your last stop before heading home. Never fear heading to the station too early for your train to KIX; just get a locker and wander and explore for a little while!

SO very helpful lady station officer. Sorted out my ICOCA card problem so fast I couldn't believe she had actually done it.Have found all stationmasters super helpful everywhere and highly recommend the whole train system in kyoto.

Much easier to move around it and also by bus to start from it than what you get in bigger ones like Osaka or Shinjuku stations.Plus it has nice lights and music shows. I tried some other "music" just in front of it, but the sound was quite unbearable.

Absolutely one of the most beautiful transport terminals I have ever seen -- it's quite hard to imagine that it's only a train station since it's more impressive than most of the international airports I've been to. There's so much to see and do at Kyoto Station and with its size, it can be easy to find yourself lost as people are always in a rush and you'll most certain feel the need to keep up with everyone's walking pace, specially if you're not there to catch a train but more to appreciate this architectural wonder. . If you're around towards evening, check out the impressive LED light stairs show.

Large open station with a very iconic design, connecting the Tokai and Kansai areas of Japan through the Shinkansen. The transfer opportunities from the major refill lines into central Kyoto are very good too, but can be slightly cumbersome if you are carrying too much luggage. Anyway, the Isetan mall right on top allows you to cover all your shopping needs if your are just stopping over briefly, and occasionally hosts small entertainment events as well!

The main transport hub of Kyoto. And its huge! This place is more than just a station. Its loaded with shops, restaurants, cafes, stores, you name it. You can also view the Kyoto tower from the main entrance, only a few minutes away.

Massive train station, even bigger than Tokyo. People everywhere. But many sign posts and it is fairly easy to find you way around the place, despite the amount of people. They are plenty of toilets to use, free of charge, places to get food etc. There are also lockers to store your bags.

Kyoto Station is the first attraction a visitor arriving by train should visit. It is far more than just a railway station ...

Kyoto JR central station. It has hotel, a lot of restaurant with various kind of foods,traditional japanese food an d modern foods also. If you go up floor to sky bridge, you will see beautiful scenery from above, especially in the night. You can see Kyoto tower also since it locate just in front of Kyoto station.

I weirdly really look forward to the train station in Kyoto every time I visit. Especially the sky garden, it is like being inside Brian Eno's brain with the sutbleness of the ambient music in concurrent rooftop gardens.

Kyoto Station is probably the most elegant train station I've ever visited. Polished concrete and black marble everywhere!

One of the best station in the world...

Excellent layout and structure with impressive amenities al over the place. There are Kent stores and dining options beside the hotel and the friendly information center. The center staff are really helpful and can answer any question in regard the traveling and tourism in Kyoto. They also have the transportation pass for the city. The public transportation are available plentifully.

Very crowded place but it is convenience. We can go any where in Japan through this station. There are many shopping mall near Kyoto station.

Kyoto station houses or is close to plenty of choices in food and shopping. The station is very clean throughout, and the staff are generally knowledgable and friendly. There are plenty of information kiosks with English speaking employees, as well.
